Real life circumstances have been piling up so that I can't devote the time to moderating the Artisan Crafts gallery anymore.  You don't know how much time it takes to be a GM until you actually become one and it isn't fair or right for me to stay on the CR team anymore.  I might like to come back one day if moonbeam13 and the community  would have me back because although it can be very  time consuming, there is a great deal of satisfaction in moderating a gallery.  I knew something wasn't right about six months ago when I realized that I wasn't being active in making art of my own, but when I lost my job and injured my foot, that set me back even more in having the right state of mind to devoting my time.  And, six months ago I didn't mind at all not having the time to create my own art because being a Gallery Moderator requires dealing with a huge community, which is an art in itself and is gratifying because not only do you learn to deal with all sorts of people, but it can carry over into your personal life as well, so it became a useful learning tool, both online and offline.

Now I shall tell you a secret and I think it's kinda funny.  When Myana announced that she was going to have a baby and wanted a partner to help with all the tasks, I was a little hesitant in applying because at that time I'd been a member of dA for only about 18 months.  I was shocked when I was made a GM in May of 2008 because I truly thought that only people who'd been members for at least two years could apply.  I never said a word and when my two-year anniversary came up last December, I still didn't say anything about it because I thought maybe I'd be kicked from the CR team, silly me.  Anyway, I've been a GM for a year and a half now and it's time for someone else to step aboard and whoever that person will be, he or she will be only the fourth GM ever of the Artisan Crafts gallery.  ohnojaylo was the very first Artisan Crafts GM, Myana was the second, and I was the third.  And by the way, Myana's little boy just turned one year old exactly two weeks ago, how time has flown since she first announced that she was expecting a baby!  If he isn't already walking, he surely will be soon... so would everyone please pester Myana for pictures of her little boy?  It's been ages since we've seen any!

Also, if you play the MMORPG Rohan: Blood Feud, you might find me there as one of my low-level characters, either LollyLuLeLo or KittenOfWoe, both not bad names for assassins, don't you think?  I know for a fact that someone there has a dA account because now and then I see a char named DeviantArt.  I'm dying to know who that is! :giggle:

This is the ninth month in the series that features all of the Artisan Crafts Daily Deviations from the previous month. In addition to each Daily Deviation will be the DD description that went with it, which sub-gallery it is located in, and the name of the suggester. I hope you enjoy this series and this month's DDs for September 2009!

Sept 1 -- "Handable" Series Goblets- by JDilorenzo  (Sculpture & Glass)
'Handable' Series Goblets- by JDilorenzo
"It has such a fascinating dark feel to it and such a sinister elegance. I really don't know how to describe it, but I think its most powerful quality is the impressive resemblance to roses, which is also subtle enough to let the mind explore it in several aspects. Those glasses look as if you could drink the most delicious looking poison from them."  Suggested by drop-asd.

Sept 2 -- Aristocrat scavenger by Sebbal  (Leatherwork)
Aristocrat scavenger by Sebbal
Known for his leather and metal armor and other LARPing costumes, Sebbal sometimes collaborates with his wife ~Zoluna and in this one she made the awesome leather hat and he made the impressive array of Steampunk-styled leather bracers and utilitarian belts.

Sept 3 -- 18th Century Me Deluxe by AlAlNe  (Costumes)
18th Century Me Deluxe by AlAlNe
The suggester had said that she thought the wig alone deserved a DD, that it was a work of art in and of itself, but "then days later here was the whole ensemble, and in this case, the whole is definitely greater than the parts, which is not to discount the parts, but also to state my amazement at how she could look so at home if she were in Versailles."   Suggested by Glori305.

Sept 4 --  Little Red by DemoiselleDreamer  (Accessories)
Little Red by DemoiselleDreamer
The suggester wrote, "This is a truly wonderful piece of work. A classic tale, these shoes are done expertly to show the two sides of the tale, the protagonist and the villain. The painting is flawless. When I first saw them, I thought it was professional."  Suggested by stuck-in-suburbia.

Sept 5 -- Black Forest Cake by fairchildart  (Sculpture & Glass)
Black Forest Cake by fairchildart
The number of people who suggested this artist is staggering and browsing through her gallery, it's easy to see why because she is a very skilled and prolific polymer clay artist who not only makes faux food items, but also in a very tiny 1:12 scale.  Click on fullview to see the crumbly texture of the cake, the smoothness of the whipped cream, the flakes of chocolate, and the shiny maraschino cherries, but remember, it's all fake!

me as Davy Jones 4 by arcitenens
The suggester wrote, "All the details are amazing. It almost looks like the real Davy Jones came to life!"  Suggested by Shirabelle.

Sept 7 -- Steampunk raygun by beelzebubby  (Miscellaneous)
Steampunk raygun by beelzebubby
An accomplished cabinet maker and woodworker, ~beelzebubby is also very talented at making art from recycled parts, such as this fantasy Steampunk raygun, made from various bits and pieces.

Sept 8 -- Hime by H4ruH1m3  (Costumes)
Hime by H4ruH1m3
The suggester wrote,"The pose, the flying skirt, the generous smile, and the ruins give it a true air of CLAMP'S style, in this case Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. Clamp's designs are well known to be full of fantasy and incredible details and this talented artist had the patience, care, and skills to look into each single aspect to make this wonderful costume. You sure can feel her talent form part of the story with this creation."   Photography by Lotherious.   Suggested by chutkat.

ant ring by morpho2012
The suggester said of this silver and coral ring, "I love this ring, it's so creative and different. Also, ants are surprisingly cute in silver, when they aren't crawling on my kitchen floor."    Suggested by j-alex-darr.

Sept 10 -- State Property by Marina-B  (Custom Dolls)

Mature Content

State Property by Marina-B

"We're all used to porcelain dolls that look pretty, whether they're nude or wearing intricate and very ornamented clothes. Yet this doll is different, it bears a message that may be hard to swallow for the viewer, at the same time looking disturbingly beautiful. It's not the average doll one would buy for its looks, but for its artistic value and for the work and imagination the artist invested in it."  Highly recommended that this be seen in fullview to see the details better, especially the tattooing and the eyes brimming with tears.  Suggested by Lumysaara.

Sept 11 -- steel robot 001 front by jashawk  (Metal Work)
steel robot 001 front by jashawk
At about 3 feet tall and over 100 lbs, the artist said of his mostly metal robot that "His body is mig welded sheet steel, the dome is thermoformed ptg, and he has a door that opens in his ass for easy maintenance."  The suggester said that he "obviously put a lot of time, skill, and effort into a subject he clearly loves (his gallery's full of robots), and I believe it shows." Suggested by SailingBreezes.

Lady and Dog Wedgwood Bead by nativeart
A Wedgwood-style large-hole bead designed by hand applying layers of  white porcelain slip with a brush on a white bead which makes it difficult and tedious to do because the contrast of the blue does not come out until after the bead is fired.  23mm by 17mm (7/8" by 11/16") and a 4mm hole. Suggested by Glori305.

Sept 13 -- Nerf Maverick Steampunk Mod by aimeekitty  (Miscellaneous)
Nerf Maverick Steampunk Mod by aimeekitty
The suggester wrote, "Nerf Maverick Steampunk Mod by aimeekitty is one of the most impressive customizations I have ever seen, and certainly the most astounding modification of a Nerf gun that I have ever laid eyes on. The gorgeous colors that call to mind the fantastic nature of the genre, the realistic tarnish and battle damage effects, the additions of bulk that look like they were always meant to be there; all of these are flawlessly executed to create a practically seamless piece that is stunning to behold."  Suggested by HalberdierMinister.

Sept 14 -- Deceit and Loss by AmandaTurnage  (Quilting)
:thumb108475048:
I love the mix of the black floral fabrics that give shape to the snarling wolf's anatomy, the white floral fabrics that play up the sheeps' wooly fluffiness, and the use of fabric pens and paint that depict the futile plea for help by the "The Boy Who Cried Wolf."

Sept 15 -- Warrior Princess </i> by icequeenserenity  (Costumes)
Warrior Princess by icequeenserenity
Xena: Warrior Princess costume that is true to the design and craftsmanship of  Academy Award winning costume designer Ngila Dickson's original.  The only exception is that *icequeenserenity made hers out of pleather rather than leather so that it would remain flexible and lighter in weight for the model here, professional bellydancer Amira (looking strikingly like Lucy Lawless), who can be seen in the dress while doing the double sword dance in this video (with *icequeenserenity as Callisto and ~RikusWorld as Gabrielle). Xena's armor and weapons were made by ~RikusWorld.

Sept 17 -- Paper Woman 2 - Hand Shoulders by zippybluedwarf  (Folding & Papercraft)
Paper Woman 2 - Hand Shoulders by zippybluedwarf
"~zippybluedwarf  has made use of a great stock image to create a beautiful image out of cut paper. Her deviation helps illustrate that paper itself, as a medium, can be manipulated to create an amazing piece of art with great textures, lighting and sense of mood/emotion.  The thumbnail view allows the colors to blend and gives an almost photo quality to the image, but please full view to see all her cuts and the textures created by the layering."  Suggested by paperfetish.

White chrysanthemum by alena-light
The suggester said of this wire and enamel chrysanthemum, "The messy yet delicate look of the petals of this charming flower is incredibly appealing. It's astounding to see the work and patience such a piece requires and the perfection of the end-result."   Suggested by drop-asd.

Mushroom gates by Steelspike
The suggester wrote, "Could be it's my subjective opinion, but for me, this is the work of a metal working genius... like it came right out from some twisted dream dimension.   I could believe this gate leads into some other world of incredible and unimaginable adventures or maybe, just to the Mad Hatter's house."   Also suggested by ~ihni who wrote, "I haven't been browsing metal works a lot before I stumbled upon this, but I might have to now, seeing what someone can do with just a hammer and an anvil. I can't understand how anyone can make something like that ... only using that. I'm amazed. And impressed."  Suggested by Maylar and ihni.

Very small vegetables... by GoddessofChocolate
A summer harvest of vegetables that is tiny beyond belief, even the biggest bowl measures only 1 1/4" (3.2cm) across and yet it is filled to the brim with carrots, red cabbage, and lettuce.  The green beans and the bread are miniatures as well and all this faux produce was made from polymer clay.  Suggested by Hellobaby and Claparo-Sans.

limenitis arthemis astyanax by taetiamcewen
~taetiamcewen is not only an impeccably skilled embroiderer, but many of her original embroidery designs are published as well.  Many of the designs in her gallery are nude flower and butterfly girls, such as limenitis arthemis astyanax and it was terribly hard to pick just one, but if you browse through her gallery you will find a treasure trove of rare and beautiful fiber art.

"I love how whimsical it is and how the glaze contrasts the undulations of the form so well. The handle and spout are great; understated but functional. I especially love the little knob on the top of the lid. It just seems to pull the whole teapot up and gives the piece a feeling of trying to pretend to be taller than it actually is."  Suggested by wookborm.

I need to switch out that depressing journal and put a more up-beat one in its place.  Please go check out Sexy Food</u>.  It's Part One to a new feature series on the Culinary Arts gallery and I hope you like it and fave it!  What will be Part Two?  Well, I've already got a start on both Parts 2 and 3 and I have a pretty good idea what Part 4 should be on.  I probably won't be able to post the next one until sometime next month, but it's looking like it's going to be named "Pretty Food."  Did I have fun putting Part One together?  Why yes, yes I did and I hope you do too and also fave it! :giggle:

I have tomorrow off from work and because the Rohan: Blood Feud website was down for a couple major upgrades and is finally back up, that's where I'll probably be for the next day or two.  If you have something urgent, send me a note or e-mail me at my Volunteers address.  :iconcheerplz:
