It's My Birthday

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 23, 2008, 12:26 AM

So, today's my birthday and no, I'm not telling you how old I am. What I wanted to do today was have a journal feature, a news article feature, a new deviation of my own, and a change in journal CSS. The news article will feature deviaciously delicious artwork from all the Artisan Crafts galleries with Final Fantasy VII and especially Advent Children as its theme. But for my journal today I wanted to feature art from all across dA with a little photography, traditional art, vector art, and fractal art, in addition to mostly Artisan Crafts.

These are my favorites, although only a few are in my faves folder. Many I had suggested for a DD, later on I featured others. Why do I like these so much? No particular reason, not any I can pin down anyway, but these are the ones that always make me stop and linger, no matter how many times I've already seen them.

I have this thing for trains and big trucks. They're big, they're powerful, and things of beauty when in motion. When I'm walking the streets in the middle of the night in all its quietness and hear the whistle of a train approaching town, I get a thrill. When it departs and I hear its whistle trailing off in the distance, my heart just sinks. I've never known why though. But in the middle of the night when there isn't the noise of the day surrounding me, I can hear a lone semi-truck tooling along on the freeway far in the distance and I get the same thrill. I think it might be that I'm experiencing someone else's life coming near me, but not quite touching my own life. It's like seeing a shooting star ... I see it and others see it, but I'll never know who else saw it. But it has an impact on someone, somewhere. And those things are beautiful, even if it's just an ordinary semi-truck. The deviations below strike me in the same way. Not in a way I can pinpoint, but in a way that touches and resonates with some hidden corner of myself.
