COSPLAY CATEGORY ADDED TO THE PHOTOGRAPHY GALLERY
This is the biggest news currently for the Artisan Crafts Gallery as the recent changes in the Photography gallery have made it possible for cosplay photos to have a home of their own now!

The Costumes gallery in Artisan Crafts is, and always has been, reserved only for costumes constructed by deviants because the Artisan Crafts gallery is only for
handcrafted art. That would include many if not all aspects of costumemaking, which include patternmaking, draping, cutting, fitting, and stitching for a major part or all of the costume. This does not mean, however, that any accessories or props for the costume must also have been made by you. Footwear, headgear, accessories, weapons, etc., do not have to have been made by you, only the costume itself.
The Costumes gallery was never intended for:
- photos of purchased or commissioned costumes
- photos of costumes that were assembled using new or second-hand garments or stock
- photos of friends or of random strangers at conventions
- photos that have been photoshopped to show the artistry of the photo rather than of the costume
- headshots and other close-ups
- photos where poses and objects obstruct the ability to view the costume
- and most especially, all photos that focus only on the character and roleplaying rather than on a hand-made costume.
The purpose of the Costumes gallery is to focus on the artistry and skills of the costumemaker, not on cosplay photos.
Please use your best judgement on whether to submit to
Photography > People & Portraits > Cosplay or to
Artisan Crafts > Textiles > Costumes. Any cosplay photos currently in your gallery that do not conform to the Artisan Crafts gallery's guidelines need to be moved to Photography. If you have a large quantity of cosplay photos in your gallery that should not be in Artisan Crafts and you anticipate having trouble moving them, send
Myana or me a note with the
link to your gallery (not your homepage) and we can do a mass relocation of your cosplay deviations to their new home in Photography, if that would be helpful to you.
In the next few weeks or so,

taeliac, and I are planning on writing a news article on the issue of cosplay vs. costumemaking. We hope to include as much as possible on this matter, so if you have any suggestions, concerns, or questions, please send a note to both
Myana and me or post your thoughts on our journals. What we have planned so far is an educational news article on cosplay vs. costumes, but I will also have a few articles that are just for fun. Won't spill the beans on what I have planned, but I have at least one in the works that features fanart from all the sub-galleries in AC, including some cosplay from the Costumes gallery, and that is based on a favorite movie of mine from a certain Sony PS RPG
. I also have an article in the works for
just cosplay and I hope to showcase some of the best of the best from bonafide costumemakers in Artisan Crafts, by both very well-known deviants but also by a handful of lesser known deviants. If you know of a talented cosplayer who is skilled in costumemaking and has deviations in the Costume gallery, send me a
note and I'll add them to my list if s/he isn't already on it!

The deadline for submitting donations to the Auction gallery is July 21 -- only one week left and then the Auction gallery will be closed. Bidding will begin on that day and continue until August 17!
