O hai... O crap... by Kitten-of-Woe O hai... O crap... by Kitten-of-Woe
This is something I made a while back. It had a matching clutch bag that got an award in a wearable art contest. As you can see, on the frontside of this bag the rattlesnake is about to pounce on the little rat and on the backside he is just about to find out that a scorpion is about to get him!!

Leather and hair-on-cow. Ten 3mm blue turquoises. Lined with heavy-weight, multi-stripe (mostly red) 100% Guatemalan cotton. One interior welt pocket (the welt is leather). The snake's rattle is twisted chamois. 9 1/2" (24cm) long by 7 3/4" (20cm) wide.

That scorpion is one of the hardest things I ever made, but it just wouldn't be the same or as funny without it! :giggle:

It's really just a matter of adjusting to learning how to use an industrial machine and just treating leather as a very different kind of "textile." So don't shortchange yourself because I think that with the abilities that you have now and with enough time and practice, you could learn to do it very well!

Thankyou very much! Not a good photo of it, I know, I should do something about that and take a close-up of the rat and scorpion while I'm at it. I used to have some hooded rats for pets, so this one was fun to do. The scorpion is so hard though I've made only two of them, never want to attempt another one! :giggle:

haha, its funny i was making a scorpion necklace the other day and i was finding it rather hard to draw too! i guess cause theyre kinda symmetrical but theres a lot of curves.
i think ya done a great job with it, he looks ace :D

Scorpions are hard, lots of detail and curves and tight little spaces. It's very hard not only to draw one but to draw it so that it's even possible to do on leather.

LoL, The rat has friends in low places :P

I love the way you have used the different levels of layering for this and the way the snake is padded. The hair on cow gives it a very interesting look.

I think this one is the only one I've done that has the design going around to the back. Its original title was "It's Suppertime," from the song sung by Levi Stubbs in Little Shop of Horrors. Thankyou for :+fav:ing it! :thanks:

Maybe a little too simple, but the snake is padded inlay and I normally just do inlay.

I padded it so that the body lines would stand out more and so he'd look a little less flat. The rat didn't need it and the scorpion was so hellish to do anyway that I wasn't about to make him even more difficult by padding him.

Thankyou! It's one of my more simple designs, but then I had so much going on in it that the design had to be simple. Well, nothing simple about the rattle and the scorpio, those were a bitch to do!

Thanks! I had a hankerin' to do something southwestern because that's my favorite style, so that's why the hair-on-cow and the turquoises. The design itself just sort of worked itself around all that.

I finks u haz been spendin too much tiemz on lolcats, duz I.

AARGH. It's contagious. Thnx - I mean, thanks - I have to go beat myself over the head with the OED now (grammar nazi self flagellation, y'see.)

Love the snake. Also love the little inlaid star - it's cute. Also like the layout with the furry top panel and the picture along the bottom - usually you sort of "frame" the picture. I like that, but I like this too.

I started framing my pictures when I started doing fantasy leather pieces, using a sort of Gothic window. I don't think I did anything like that in any of my western pieces though, such as this one.

I haz no tiemz on dA becuz I spendz all my tiemz on icanhascheezburger.com. :ashamed:

The rat is adorable. =D And nice job on the scorpion! With all of those appendages, I imagine it was tough to craft. :faint:

Oh yes, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I was going to do a desert rat but I couldn't resist doing a hooded rat. Have had three hooded rats of my own in the past. The scorpion was horribly hard, partly to come up with a design and partly because it was hard to cut and stitch.

I slept in much of my birthday, 12 hours of sleep!
